SEN Teaching Assistants are needed for the new academic school year, for supply positions for a lovely SEN school we work with in the South Tyneside area. We have positions in this school with children with needs ranging from ASD, MLD, behavioural issues and PMLD/complex needs. Ages of pupils range from Nursery through to 6th form. Roles could vary from whole class supporting roles or providing one to one support to pupils with SEND.
Facilities are excellent including a hydrotherapy pool on site and class sizes are very small.
Experience in supporting children with any of the above needs would be an advantage but is not essential – a willingness to learn and engage with SEN children is the most important quality we are looking for.
You will hold a degree in any subject. Posts vary from short term to long term but we require staff that are flexible and willing to learn from experienced staff at the school.
In addition, you must:
- Provide two referees we can contact
- Have a DBS form or be prepared to obtain one
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant you will be supporting in groups and on a 1:1 basis. You will be mentored and coached by the team to allow you to grow your skillset in teaching.
Duties include:

- Managing the behaviour of pupils while they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive environment
- Responding to any questions from pupils about process and procedures
- Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures
